Florida Power & Light Company and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers are co-hosting An Evening of Hope – Florida Unites to End Human Trafficking on November 10, 2016 at FPL’s headquarters in Juno Beach.

Did you know that Florida ranks number three in the nation for reported cases of human trafficking?  The average age of victims is 12-14 years old!  The purpose of our event is primarily educational; we are inviting educators, government officials, law enforcement professionals, civic leaders and friends in an effort to increase public and civic awareness of this tragedy of modern day slavery.  The event will also benefit Place of Hope, Camillus House, and Selah Freedom, safe houses in Florida that provide stable, loving and nurturing environments for women and girls rescued from sex trafficking right here in our communities.

The evening will commence with a short reception beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by our keynote speakers, two powerful voices in the fight against human trafficking:

Katherine Fernandez Rundle, State Attorney for Miami-Dade County, has been aggressively prosecuting traffickers for several years and is widely recognized as a leader within Florida law enforcement on this issue;
Elizabeth Fisher, President and CEO of Selah Freedom will provide a frontline report from the perspective of women and girls who are caught in this abusive web.

This event will also be webcast live to 20 colleges and universities across Florida, educating many students throughout our state on this critical issue.

If you are able to attend, please click here to access the invite.  You are welcome to bring a guest – just be sure to register him or her when you RSVP as all guests are required to RSVP due to security protocol.  Also, take a look at our Facebook page for more resources and information.

Thank you for your interest and I hope to see you on Nov 10th!
