YOUTH LEADERSHIP PALM BEACH COUNTY PROGRAM GRADUATES JUNIORS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT

Prestigious leadership development organization lauds youth in 2014 class

West Palm Beach, FL,  May 16, 2014

When the 48 juniors from public, charter, and high schools across Palm Beach County convened for the Youth Leadership Palm Beach County retreat in September, they were mostly strangers to each other.  The group started bonding during that retreat and during every day-long session they attended for the subsequent eight months. On Thursday, May 15, the students gathered as a class one last time—now a unified group-- to celebrate their graduation from the Youth Leadership Palm Beach County program. Held from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport, the students, their families, and school principals celebrated their Youth Leadership journey, and their achievements during that time. Ed Chase, vice-president of LPR Publications and an alumnus of the adult Leadership program, gave the inspiring and humorous keynote speech at the event.

An initiative of The Leadership Palm Beach County (LPBC) organization, Youth Leadership gives students unparalleled access to county industries and leaders not experienced by many adults. A team of dedicated LPBC alumni coordinate each program day. Program coordinators encourage students to reflect on their future as community leaders and build necessary skills including public speaking and resume-writing.
On-site session days bring students into the studios of Channel 25, the kitchen of the Breaker’s Hotel, down into the Kennedy Bunker, and aboard air boats in Grassy Waters Preserve. Whether participating in Media Day, Health and Human Services Day, Environment Day, Public Safety Day, Business and Economic Development Day, or Agriculture Day, the students enjoy a sponsored breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack, and are transported throughout the day via a chartered bus.

The program accepts 48 high school juniors who represent the diversity of Palm Beach County’s school system. Recommended by school administrators and teachers, Youth Leadership class members meet one day per month over a period of nine months from September to May.
