This month, our Leadership GROW class explored how new and traditional media impacts on our lives. The key takeaway during Media Day: To make societal changes, use social media to start a movement.

Class participant Victor Espidol explains social media’s influence on major issues in Florida and elsewhere.

What was the most important issue discussed during Media Day?

Victor Espidol: One of the most important issues came during a discussion with one of Palm Beach Post’s social media producers.  The discussion focused on a controversial bill in Florida that legislators are trying to pass. It states that individuals who carry a licensed gun or weapon are not required to conceal it.

And that’s where social media comes in. Something the youth and adults can do to address the issue is to start a movement or petition in a peaceful and civilized manner to end or stop the passage of the bill.
