2016 Leadership Excellence Award Winner: Robi Jurney
Congratulations to Robi Jurney – Leadership Palm Beach County’s 2016 Leadership Excellence Award winner.
A Palm Beach County native, Robi is an Engage Class 2010 alumni and executive director of Quantum House in West Palm Beach who has held long-term leadership positions at some of the county’s most powerful entities that support our economy and nonprofits. Among her many accolades include being the 2014 Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year.
Robi, along with nine other distinguished leaders, were honored June 8 during the annual Leadership Excellence Award ceremony at The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
“This award recognizes exceptional Leadership Engage graduates who make significant contributions to improving our community – and Robi has certainly stood out for her extraordinary work in Palm Beach County and beyond,” said Kim Jones, president of LPBC.
Robi has met, and exceeded, LBPC’s three guiding principles -- connect, collaborate and change.
Here’s how she has excelled.
Connect…As a trustee of the South Florida Fair for 12 years, Robi helps connect the people that drive the Fairgrounds and its $150,000,000 economic impact. She leads the annual board retreat, bringing together leaders to continuously improve the Fairgrounds. During her tenure, approximately $20 million in capital improvements were made and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed to youth and educational initiatives. In addition, Robi served on the founding committee for Executive Women’s Day at the Honda Classic that connects 250 female professionals to educate them about creating connections between business and golf.
Collaborate…As a board member of the Palm Beach Flagler Rotary Club for eight years and past president, Robi has collaborated with her fellow Rotarians to further the club’s primary goal of “service above self” in identifying needs in the community and implementing community service projects. As president, she guided the club’s collaboration with Palm Beach Day Academy in the creation of a “Student of the Month” program that taught and recognized children’s leadership and volunteerism. Understanding the needs of disadvantaged youth, she also led the club’s first volunteer effort for the “Back to School Bash,” working with other organizations to provide underserved, homeless and foster children with school supplies for a successful head start. On the club’s Grants Committee, she collaborated with others to promote change by funding nonprofits working on our community’s greatest challenges. Robi’s leadership was recognized with several district awards and a Presidential Citation from Rotary International.
Change...Robi’s involvement with the Junior League of the Palm Beaches since 1988 is a prime example of leading change. As president, she was a catalyst for providing families in need the foundation for quality of life—a home and a community—by founding “Christmas in April,” a nonprofit dedicated to refurbishing homes in Westgate and Limestone Creek, leading the building of a playground at Gaines Park in Riviera Beach and serving as founding board member and chair of Quantum House, where today she gives care and compassion to families with seriously ill children. Robi’s dedication to improving the lives of children was recognized at a national level when she was invited to the White House to participate as a JL delegate in a round table discussion on children's health initiatives. Now a Sustainer (and past Sustainer Chair), Robi leads strategic planning for JL, continuing its legacy of creating change.
In addition to Robi, nine other distinguished leaders were honored during the 2016 Leadership Excellence Award ceremony:
