Who encouraged you to apply for LPBC:  Gregory Demetriades

How has LPBC affected you?  I learned much about different aspects of PBC, made great friends, and became a part of the Leadership PBC alumni network. All three have been invaluable.

What is your fondest LPBC memory?    Our opening retreat and ropes course were amazing and fun. Our class had several characters. Go Class of ’08!

What is something unexpected or surprising that you have derived from your involvement with LPBC?   I came to a new understanding of the depth and character of the many strong leaders we have in PBC. I became more appreciative and hopeful about our diverse, richly blessed PBC community.

Where do you work and what do you do for a living:  I’m the CEO of Community Partnership Group. Trained as a clinical social worker, I love our organization and our work – we’re committed to changing the odds for our children and families facing adversity in our community.

What is your favorite aspect of your job:  The one promise I make to every new staff member is that he/she will never be bored. Serving others is a daily adventure in our changing environment. I love seeing folks overcome challenges and thrive.

Your education:  MSW, Tulane University. Currently in Executive Fellowship program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government called Achieving Excellence in Community Development.

Your civic and community involvement: LPBC (of course), Parishioner at St. Vincent’s, human service and housing initiatives, Member of Board of Directors for Florida Community Loan Fund & the National NeighborWorks Association

Your professional/trade industry associations: Member of the NeighborWorks Network, Nonprofit Chamber of PBC, and Florida Supportive Housing Coalition

Your family: Beautiful wife Ana and three amazing kids – Nick, Emma, and Brea

City of birth:  New Orleans, LA

Place of residence:  Boynton Beach

First job:   Substance Abuse Counselor

What brought you to Palm Beach County: My wife is from here.

How long have you lived in PBC: 17 years

Where we would find you on a Saturday afternoon: Beach

Most important lesson you've learned:  Love helplessly – grace happens some of the time.

Most interesting place you have visited: I met my wife in Austria while we were both studying there. Traveling in Eastern Europe after the fall of the “iron curtain” was life-changing.

Last book(s) read and favorite writers:    Walker Percy is my favorite author.

Favorite spot in Palm Beach County:   beach at Delray Beach

Favorite restaurant:     Paradiso in Lake Worth.

Favorite movie:   Henry V

Goal yet to be achieved:  Writing my first novel
