West Palm Beach, FL – Clerk & Comptroller Sharon R. Bock wants to warn citizens of attempts by various private companies to solicit fees of $40 to $60 for copies of public records. These companies are sending official-looking letters to households throughout the county advertising the government’s recommendation that all citizens have certified copies of their records, such as property deeds.

“We want the residents of Palm Beach County to know they can access and print their records at home for free by visiting our Web site at www.pbcountyclerk.com, and certified documents can be obtained from our office for less than $3, not for the excessive price these companies are charging them,” said Clerk & Comptroller Sharon R. Bock. “It’s unfortunate that these companies are misleading and taking advantage of people.”

Citizens may obtain certified copies of their records by visiting the Clerk & Comptroller's Records Services Center on the 4th floor of the Palm Beach County Courthouse, located at 205 North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, or at branch locations in Belle Glade, Delray Beach, Royal Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens. A one-page document, such as a property deed, can be copied for a dollar and certified for an additional $1.50.
