How did you get involved in Leadership Palm Beach County: A former colleague (Sandra Patton) was a Leadership graduate and spoke highly of the program. I participated in a Focus Class and really enjoyed it. I applied for the class of 2000 and was accepted. I almost did not participate because I learned I was pregnant with my first child after I applied. I was encouraged to participate anyway and met a fellow classmate (Jessica Cecere) who was also pregnant. Our kids were born ten days apart and we have been great friends for the last 12 years.
Who encouraged you to apply for Leadership Palm Beach County: Sandra Patton, a former Girl Scout colleague and Leadership alum
How has Leadership Palm Beach County affected you: It have provided me with opportunities to meet people I might never have met. I have had the opportunity to work on several committees and participate in some fantastic events and initiatives that will help shape the future of Palm Beach County. It’s always great to know that you can call a fellow Leadership Alum—perhaps one you haven’t met—and ask for help. The Leadership connection is an instant bond.
What is the best benefit that you have derived from your involvement with Leadership Palm Beach County: The experience itself made me prouder to be a part of this community. In the eleven years since I graduated, I have seen the influence that the Leadership organization has had in so many important areas.
What you do for a living: I am the Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management for the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida and also have a small consulting business.
What you like best about your job: In terms of the work itself, every day is different. We recently completed a strategic learning process at the Girl Scouts that helped us identify the key priorities for our organization for the next 1-3 years. It was a challenging, yet invigorating process and will help strengthen the organization in the future. I also get great satisfaction from seeing the impact that we have on the lives of the girls we serve—it is great to watch them grow into leaders in their own right.
